Wheels help support the weight of a vehicle and serve as a connection between the entire tire-wheel assembly and a vehicle’s axle. Wheels may be made from steel, aluminum, or alloy. Parts on a wheel include the rim, centre bore, outboard face, and spokes. The rim is the part of the wheel that touches the tire. The empty space that allows the wheel to attach to the axle is the centre bore. The outboard face looks outward when the wheel is installed on a vehicle, and spokes are rods that extend outward from a wheel’s center. Some manufacturers create different spoke designs for aesthetic appeal. Unlike tires, wheels are not created for surface contact. If a wheel comes into close contact with the surface of the road for too long, the wheel assembly can incur irreparable damage, thereby limiting the effectiveness of the entire tire-wheel assembly. Replacing wheels as needed is extremely important for your safety and the performance of your vehicle.
Types of Wheels
Alloy Wheels
They are light wheels with improved performance characteristics. These light wheels increase cornering and steering precision and decrease road feedback for a better braking response.
Steel Wheels
Steel Wheels are heavier wheels that provide vehicles with a lower center of gravity. Steel wheels are perfect for harsh road conditions like snow or rugged off-road terrain but lack other performance capabilities because of the added weight.
Chrome
Chrome is an aesthetically pleasing finish applied to both alloy and steel wheels. Chrome wheels are popular among drivers concerned with cosmetic appearance. While chrome wheels are known for their metallic mirrored shine, durability, and strength, they require regular attention and cleaning to retain their visual appeal.
